Yesterday, April 13th, the senior syndicate went on a trip to Maritime Museum. First, the entire senior syndicate had to fit into one bus, some people had to sit in threes and some people hat to stand up. The bus was very crowded and it was difficult to breath. When we finally arrived to the museum, we all split into our classes. Room 11 was the first to experience the waka. We put on yellow life jackets to prevent us from falling into the water and staying safe. There was this man who was telling us stories about where the waka came from and lots of different facts, I learnt so much.
I got a bit dizzy and seasick from the waka rocking side to side but it was a very cool experience. After the waka, we had two people come in and talk to us about the origin and how the people found New Zealand. Then, we had to build wakas made from wood and re attach pieces. Next, we had another person show us the husk of a coconut and explain each piece and then we had two sticks and a string and we had to cross it over and under forming a cross. After that, our last activity was the scavenger hunt. We had to get into groups and find some of the things located in the museum. During the scavenger hunt, my group and I played different games in the museum and we had lots of fun! I think that this trip was amazing! We got the chance to learn new things and got the chance to experience going on a waka!
