Fire Vs Water

Fire Vs Water
Purpose / Question: Find out what happens to a lit up candle when you put it on top of a bowl of water and when we push it down to the bottom of the bowl with a clear glass.

Materials: 1 tealight candle, water, 1 lighter, an adult, a clear bowl and a clear glass.

Hypothesis: I thought that the tealight candle was going to float.

Steps:
1. Grab your clear bowl and fill it up halfway with water.
2. Light up your tealight candle with a lighter.
3. Gently put it on top of the bowl of water and find out what happens.
4. Then, grab your clear glass and push it down to the bottom with the candle inside and see what happens.

Results: I noticed that the glass became steamy and bubbles appeard when we pushes the glass down to the bottom.

Conclusion: The reason why the candle didn’t go out but only after about seven second was because, when you push the down with the glass, all the air inside it pushes all the water out of the way so when there is no water left inside the cup. The reason that the flame went out after around seven seconds was because that the flame used up all the oxygen in the glass.
